NOTED EXPERTS IN FLORIDA BLACK HISTORY

Dr. Canter Brown, Jr., Ph.D is Legal Counsel and Special Assistant to the President at Fort Valley State University. Dr. Brown is the author of over 20 books about Florida history.

Dr. Mark I. Greenberg, Ph.D. is Director at the Florida Studies Center and Special Collections Department at University of South Florida.

ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Ellen Babb is an historian at Heritage Park in Largo, Florida and a contributor to Discover Black Florida.

Dr. Martha Bireda, Ph.D., is Founder and Executive Director of the Blanchard House in Punta Gorda, Florida.

Bob Fitzgerald is immediate past president of the Manasota Association for the Study of African American Life & History in Sarasota and Manatee County, Florida.

Virginia Haley is Executive Director at the Sarasota Convention and Visitors Bureau in Sarasota, Florida.

Cliff Lewis is Executive Director of the L. B. Brown House located in Bartow, Florida.

Linda Mansperger is Executive Director of the Gulf Coast Heritage Association, Inc. The organizationŐs primary mission is the preservation of Historic Spanish Point.

Dr. Walter Smith is Founder/CEO of the Eva and Reuben Computer & Science Technology Research Center. Dr. Smith is a former president of Florida A & M University. He resides in Tampa, Florida.

Florence Tate is a retired Public Relations executive and Civil Rights Activist. Tate resides in Washington, D.C. and winters in Sarasota, Florida.

CONTRIBUTORS

Vickie Oldham, M.F.A. is the Project Director of Discover Black Florida. She is a journalist with over 20 years experience in media. Currently, she is Assistant to the President for Marketing & Communications at Fort Valley State University. Oldham also spearheads a multi-disciplinary project called "Looking For Angola" that includes archaeology, a website, community lectures, research, teacher training workshops, education programs in schools, and a documentary short.

Sherri M. Anderson, M.L.A. received a Master of Liberal Arts degree in Africana Studies from the University of South Florida. Ms. Anderson's research focused on efforts to preserve Tampa's Historic Central Avenue district. She serves as a Researcher and Web Consultant for Discover Black Florida. D. Shenell Reed, M.B.A. is a contributor to Discover Black Florida. Reed is the communications officer at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute Foundation where she is also the editor of the Foundation's quarterly magazine, Legacy. Prior to joining the Moffitt Foundation, Reed was a reporter and columnist for two daily newspapers. Reed received a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism, Magazine Production and a Master of Business Administration degree in management.
